径山庙会是杭嘉湖地区特有的以茶文化为主要内容的传统民间庙会。她是有浓厚的径山禅茶文化内涵和独特的径山地方民间艺术特色。茶乡百姓在每年春茶采摘期间，举行径山庙会活动来祭祀茶祖和期盼径山茶的丰收。

径山镇是“茶圣著经之地”、“日本茶道之源”、“浙江省茶叶之乡”，径山茶始于唐，自宋至清均为贡茶，现已获得中国原产地证明商标，中国文化名茶，浙江省十大名茶等二十多项荣誉。径山茶历史悠久，文化底蕴丰厚，是我国名茶苑中的一朵奇葩。更具有传统性、民间性、文化性、地方性的径山庙会，民众参与广泛，影响力大，生命力强。

庙会这天，四面八方的茶农会聚在一起，买径山茶，唱径山歌，涌径山诗，跳径山舞，演径山茶艺，敲径山茶鼓，品径山名茶，整个庙会围绕一个“茶”字，使径山禅茶文化独特的魅力得以充分张显，民间艺术千姿百态。

庙会中举行的茶圣陆羽出会仪式盛大隆重。出会队伍穿着唐宋服饰浩浩荡荡，先是鸣锣开道，九面大纛旗后陆羽神像在径山禅茶鼓乐队、三十多名茶业主高举仿古大旗队，三十名敬茶队等扶送下出会，然后，径山茶灯、茶鼓、茶舞和马灯，旱船、舞龙耍狮等民间艺术队伍展示丰富多彩的民间文艺。

庙会中进行民间才艺展示活动，有剪纸、雕刻、刺绣、米塑、草编等一系列民间民俗手工艺制作表演。同时还举行规模盛大百人茶艺表演。

庙会中一边品茗一边观看社戏，更是一种传统民间特色。五、六百人围坐在四方桌旁木条凳上品着径山茶，观赏着径山民间文艺表演，成为茶农参加庙会的最大喜悦和快乐。

Jingshan Temple Fair is a traditional and folk temple fair that is dominated by tea culture as the main contents and is particular in the districts of Hangzhou, Jiaxing and Huzhou. People from the tea locations hold Jingshan Temple Fair during the spring tea picking period each year to sacrifice the ancestors of tea and look forward to a good harvest.

Jingshan Town is honored as “The Place for the Tea Saint Writing Tea Scripture”, “The Origin of Japanese Tea Ceremony” and “The Tea Town of Zhejiang Province”. Jingshan Tea originated from the Tang Dynasty, served as the tribute from the Song Dynasty and the Qing Dynasty, nowadays, it has been granted with the certificate of China origin and the trademark together with over twenty honors, including the famous tea of China, one of Zhejiang top ten famous tea brands etc. With a very long history and profound culture foundation, Jingshan Tea is a miracle of famous tea products in our country. Jingshan Temple Fair that is of even more traditions, folk characteristics, culture and local characteristics has been widely attended by people and is greatly influential and vigorous.

On the day of the temple fair, tea farmers from all directions aggregate together, people buy Jingshan tea, sing Jingshan songs, read aloud poems of Jingshan, have Jingshan local dance, perform Jingshan Tea ceremony, play Jingshan Tea drums, taste famous Jingshan Tea and the whole temple fair is focused on the word “tea”, making the particular charm from Jingshan Zen and tea culture get revealed fully and showing the great variety of folk arts.

It is very grand for the statue presentation ceremony of the tea saint Lu Yu. People in the grandiose presentation team have clothes in the style of the Tang Dynasty, firstly, they sound the gongs to clear the way, the statue of Lu Yu which is followed by nine big feather banners is presented under the support of Jingshan drum music team of Zen and tea, the team of over thirty tea owners who hold up antique and big flags highly and the tea offering team that is formed by thirty members, then the performance of Jingshan tea lanterns, tea drums, tea dancing and such folk art teams including horse shaped lantern, land boat, dancing of paper made dragon & lion etc. will be followed, showing the local rich and colorful folk arts.

The folk acquirement shows in the temple fair include a serial of performances for folk customs and handwork making as the artistic paper cutting, carving, embroidery, rice sculpture and grass weaving etc. and meanwhile the large tea performance attended by hundreds of people will be held as well.

It is a kind of traditional folk feature to watch village theatrical performances while tasting tea in the temple fair. It has become the biggest delight and joy for tea farmers to attend the temple fair that about five to six hundred people sit on wood benches around square tables to taste Jingshan tea and watch Jingshan folk art performances.
